Robinho, often regarded as the hope of Brazilian football, now 27 years, assumes his new position as leader of the national team as they prepare for the 2011 Copa America. He is acting as a 'big brother' for young stars like Neymar. The coach, Mano Menezes has shown great confidence since he took control of the national team after the early exit Brazil had in the World Cup in 2010. Although, still not convinced on the ground, Robinho is the top scorer, with 27 goals.
"Being the top scorer of Brazil gives me motivation. I hope to have good games, scoring the goals needed to do well at the Copa America" he was quoted by local media. "Ronaldo always gave me advice on and off the field. All that good advice given to me, I am passing on to young Neymar, Lucas (from Sao Paulo FC) and Ganso” said Robinho.
The Venezuelan coach, César Farías, announced today the list of players who will play in the Copa America, and who will head to Argentina today. Unfortunately, defender Juan Fuenmayor suffered an injury in his right knee during training and therefore was not on the final list to play in the competition. Besides Fuenmayor, defender William Díaz and midfielders Edgar Jiménez, Fracisco Flores, Angelo Peña, Angel Chourio and Alejandro Guerra did not make the final list.
The team will commence play on Sunday, against Brazil, and will face Paraguay and Ecuador in the group stage of the Copa America.
