The swift-skating Tampa Bay Lightning wasted little time taking control of the Eastern Conference finals.
Surprising playoff scorer Sean Bergenheim began a stretch of three Tampa Bay goals in 85 seconds in the first period and the Lightning beat the Boston Bruins 5-2 on Saturday night for their eighth straight win.
Bergenheim, who scored just 14 goals in the regular season, got his NHL-high eighth of the playoffs at 11:15. Brett Clark connected at 11:34 and Teddy Purcell wrapped up the onslaught, both with unassisted goals as the Lightning capitalized on Bruins mistakes.
Boston, Dwayne Roloson made 31 saves and the Tampa Bay Lightning got goals from five different players Saturday in a 5-2 victory over Boston in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.
The Lightning scored three goals in an 85-second span in the first period, taking an early 3-0 lead mostly because the Bruins couldn't get out of their own way.
The Bruins were settled down by 19-year-old Tyler Seguin, who scored in his first career playoff game after a swift move near the blueline for Boston's first goal.
But the early rally stood up and the Lightning will try to steal another win on the road in Game 2 on Tuesday.
